Waje and Shoday have released "My Sunshine", an original song from the soundtrack of Funke Akindele's The Four, and the pairing mirrors the film. On screen, Waje plays Esosa, a mother, and Shoday plays Obaloluwa, her son. The duet puts their two very different voices on one track, so the song carries the same relationship the audience will watch on screen from 11th December.

Why the Duet Mirrors the Film

The song celebrates the tenderness, sacrifice and determination behind a mother's promise to stand by her child. Waje's and Shoday's contrasting vocal styles are part of the point: a veteran singer and a younger Afrobeats artist meeting in a duet that echoes the mother and son they play.

That makes "My Sunshine" more than a promotional single. It is written into the story of a film that is centred on Esosa and three loyal women fighting for a young man's future, with the Odu Community and the city pulling in different directions around them.

Two Singers on a Film Set

Both artists are best known for music. Shoday is trading the microphone for the screen, and the film is a chance to see whether the charisma that works on stage and in music videos translates into a different kind of performance. Waje, who has spent years communicating emotion through sound, gets to explore storytelling through character instead.

They join a cast that includes Funke Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu and Wunmi Toriola. Funke writes, directs and produces, with the film made by FAAN TV and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.

What Funke Akindele Wants the Film to Say

Announcing the film, Funke said: "Audiences have grown with us over the years, and they expect stories that entertain while reflecting who we are. With The Four, we are exploring the relationships that shape us, challenge us and stay with us." A mother-and-son duet is the most direct musical version of that sentence.

It also echoes another family-first release this month, Kizz Daniel dedicating "Owo Oluwa" to his late parents in its video.

How to Listen

"My Sunshine" is available on all streaming platforms, and the official video is on FAAN TV's YouTube channel. The Four: No One Fights Alone opens in cinemas nationwide on 11th December.
