A Nigerian writer, filmmaker or course creator choosing where to sell has to read three price tags at once: the platform's cut, the payment processor's cut, and whatever the fan's bank does to a dollar payment. The first two are published, so this guide starts there and then covers how PINCHED handles the same job in Naira.
What the Foreign Platforms Charge
On direct sales, Gumroad charges 10% plus $0.50 per transaction, and 30% on sales that come through its discover marketplace. Substack keeps 10% of each paid subscription, and Stripe's card processing fee is charged on top, at 2.9% plus $0.30 per payment for US cards and an extra 0.7% for recurring billing. Patreon takes 10% of the income a creator earns, plus payment processing, currency conversion and payout fees.
None of those numbers includes the cost of a failed payment, which is the next problem.
Where Dollar Checkouts Break Down
All three price in dollars, so a Nigerian fan paying with a Naira card has to clear their bank's foreign spending limit. Those limits are set bank by bank: Stanbic IBTC has capped Naira debit cards at $100 a month, Access Bank at $2,000 to $3,000 a month depending on the card, and GTBank at $20,000 a quarter. A fan at the low end of that range can see a payment fail at checkout, and the creator loses the sale.
What PINCHED Charges
PINCHED prices in Naira and publishes its plans on the pricing page. The earlier breakdown of how creators keep up to 97% of what they earn covers the full detail, and the short version is:
Free, at ₦0 a month, where the creator keeps 90% of sales
Pro, at ₦5,000 a month, where the creator keeps 92%
Studio, at ₦10,000 a month, where the creator keeps 94%
Exclusive, at ₦20,000 a month, where the creator keeps 97%
Enterprise, with rates agreed case by case
On a ₦1,000 sale, that is ₦900, ₦920, ₦940 and ₦970. Buyers never pay extra, so the price a creator sets is exactly what the audience pays. Earnings appear in the creator's balance when a payment settles, and withdrawals are processed on the next working day.
Payments run through Interswitch, which accepts local Naira cards on Verve, Mastercard and Visa, bank transfer and USSD, as well as international cards.
What You Can Sell
The free plan covers unlimited publishing, a creator page and fan gifts. Pro and above add paid content from ₦200, digital products, event tickets and audience export. Studio adds AI tools, team members and custom branding, and Exclusive adds priority homepage placement and a dedicated creator manager.
The marketplace already lists courses from ₦10,000 to ₦40,000, templates, e-books and event tickets, with instant delivery. Independent creators are building beyond a single release too, as OGWA Studios did when it marked its first year with four short films, a documentary and a new publishing arm.
Small Contributions From Fans
Give a Pinch lets fans support a creator with a one-time or monthly contribution. Pinches always settle 90% to the creator and 10% to PINCHED, whatever plan the creator is on.
How to Choose
If a creator's audience is mostly outside Nigeria and already pays in dollars, a foreign platform can work. If most of the audience pays in Naira, the fee line is only half of the question, because a platform that cannot reliably take the payment costs more than a platform that takes a bigger percentage and completes it.
