Black Market has the record. A Guinness World Records official confirmed 51,000 qualifying attendees at Tafawa Balewa Square on Saturday night, clearing the previous mark of 43,624 and the 50,000-person target Rixel Studios had set for itself when PINCHED first reported on the attempt.
What Guinness World Records Actually Counted
The figure Guinness recognised was narrower than the crowd at the venue. Nairametrics reports that Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat put total attendance at about 64,000, but Guinness World Records counted only the 51,000 who remained at the venue from the start of the film to the end, the qualifying condition for the record. That distinction explains the gap between the two numbers being reported: one is a crowd count, the other is a verified record.
The Guardian reports that as of Sunday, the Guinness World Records website still listed the 2015 figure, though the organisation notes that new records do not always appear online immediately after confirmation.

How the Night Unfolded
Gates opened at about 2pm, with queues building through the afternoon as fans arrived at Tafawa Balewa Square, Channels Television reports. The red carpet started around 3pm, and the main screening began at 7pm, with music, food and games running for the crowd through the day. Guests included Deputy Governor Hamzat, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson, and cast members Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Stan Nze and Linda Ejiofor, alongside director Kunle Afolayan and actor Gabriel Afolayan.
FilmOne, the film's distributor, announced the confirmation on its own social channels: "51,000+ people. One screen. One moment that just made history," the company said.
What This Means for the Record
The previous record, 43,624, was set in 2015 at a screening of the Filipino biographical film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena, Time News notes. Black Market clears that mark by more than 7,000 verified attendees, and clears the 50,000 figure Rixel Studios had set as its own public target before the event, a number PINCHED reported as one of two conflicting targets circulating ahead of the screening, the other being 75,000.
The Takeaway for Nigerian Cinema
FilmOne framed the record as proof of what Nigerian filmmakers, studios and collaborators can do when they aim at a larger scale, Time News reports. The confirmation gives Nigeria its first Guinness World Records title tied to a film industry event of this kind, and sets a new bar that any future attempt, in Nigeria or elsewhere, will now be measured against.
