Ever wished you could walk through Lagos without the traffic? Now you actually can.
Lagos Life is a free browser game built by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, and it passed one million players within four days of launching in early October. Here's what it is and how to jump in.
Quick Answer: What Is Lagos Life?
A free, shared virtual Lagos that runs in your browser at lagoslife.eliysites.com
No download, console or high-end phone needed
You create a character, get a job, pay rent and build a life alongside other players
The map covers Mainland and Island Lagos, from Afrika Shrine to Elegushi
Why Everyone Is Talking About It
Shalom grew up playing The Sims 3, and in her own words she always wondered what it would be like if the Sims lived in a world inspired by ours. Then she saw Eureka's danfo game, Lagos Run, and the idea for Lagos Life was born, as she explained on X.

The numbers climbed fast. On 5th October, she posted that 135,538 players were online, with 1,351,281 players in total and 12 million visits all time.

Places You'll Actually Recognise
This is the fun part. The map includes real Lagos names: Afrika Shrine, Amala Shitta, CcHub, Balogun, Freedom Park, Quilox, The Palms and Elegushi, split across Mainland and Island. The official description says you can ride danfo, chop amala at Shitta, party at Quilox and survive NEPA. The clubs also play music from upcoming Nigerian artists, If you've planned a Lagos weekend before, the route will feel familiar: eat, work, go out, repeat. If you've never been, it's a free preview of how the city moves.
Nepo or Lapo: Pick Your Start
Every player chooses a starting point. Nepo means you begin with money. Lapo means you begin with very little and work your way up. Either way, you'll need to manage your money and energy, buy food, take jobs and slowly improve your situation. The game runs in real time, mirroring actual day cycles.
A Few Things to Know Before You Start
It's free to play. You can start at no cost, and you don't need to download anything
Start from the official link. Open it in your browser and create your character
Expect crowds. With over 130,000 players online at once, the world is busy
Expect bugs. An early exploit handed some players huge amounts of virtual naira before Shalom reset the balances
Lagos Is Only the Start
The map is already growing. AbujaLife and PHLife, a Port Harcourt version, are in development, with an in-game airport planned to connect the cities. For a game built around exploring, travelling between cities is the natural next level.
Ready for the Real Thing?
A virtual trip is a good warm-up, but nothing beats the real city. And if Lagos Life has you thinking bigger, here's your easiest first international trip, Ghana. Now you've got what you need to plan it properly.
